PROCEDURE & FEES

PROCEDURE: 
 
1. Initial meeting where the size, composition, clothing, mood, and style of the portrait are discussed. A schedule of approximately 3 two hour sittings is arranged. 
 

2. If a sitting from life is not optional then a photo shoot of approximately two hours is required. In some instances other sittings may be requested. For posthumous portraits a review of the reference material is requested. 
 
 

3. When working from photos a meeting to discuss the photos and/or sketches by the artist is necessary for client approvel before work begins on the final painting. 
 
 

4. Delivery of the portrait in will be established in the initial meeting. When working from life delivery in as little as 2 weeks after the final sitting to allow time for the artwork to be photographed. When working from photos delivery can range from 2 to 5 months or according to a date that has been previously established.  
 
 

 COMMISSION DETAILS
: 

Style: 
The portrait will be executed by Christopher Near in conformity with his established procedures in a style agreed upon by the client.  

 
Approval:  The persons to make the final approval should be agreed upon prior to the commencement of the work. When Christopher Near is present at the delivery of the painting, the painting is deemed accepted at the conclusion of the session. When the portrait is received by the client without the artist present, the portrait will be deemed accepted unless client, within 7 days of receiving the portrait returns the portrait and requests alterations. 

Alterations: 
The artist will carry out any reasonable requested alterations of the finished portrait that are deemed consistent with his conception and established style. No additional charge is made to the client for minor alterations. Any additional travel expenses made necessary to carry out alterations will be the responsibility of the client. 

Artist Default: 
If the portrait is not completed because of death, incapacity, or default of the artist for any reason all moneys paid will be returned promptly to the client. 

Client Responsibilities: 
If the portrait is completed and is in conformity with Christopher Near’s established procedures and recognized style and standards of his work, the client agrees to pay the amount agreed upon in full. If the client is unable to pay because of death, incapacity or for any other reason, the clients estate agrees to make any and all concessions to ensure payment in full to the artist.  Any professional fees incurred by the artist to facilitate payment will be responsibility of the client.

 
PORTRAIT FEES: 

Children: 
For portraits of children fess range from 1,ooo for head and shoulders to 3,000 for the full figure.

Adults:
 For portraits of adults fees range from 1,750 for head and shoulders to 5,000 for the full figure.

Additional Figures:
Additional figures are generally placed in the composition at a 50% increase to the original price, however depending on the number of figures and the composition this will be established between Christopher and the client.

Deposit: 
A 50% deposit is required at the time the portrait is commissioned. 50% of the agreed upon deposit is non-refundable if the client cancels after the first photo session and/or first sitting. For posthumous portraits deposit is non-refundable after contract signing.   

Balance: 
The balance is payable upon acceptance of the completed portrait.

Crating and Shipping:
  The cost of crating and shipping if required are the responsibility of the client.

 Frame:  The cost of the frame is not included in the commission price. 
 

Travel:  
When traveling outside the southern California area the cost of travel will be the responsibility of the client and will be added to the agreed upon commission price.
