EXPERIENCE

 AN OUTLOOK

The Education and training I have received not only helped to shape my love of traditional media, drawing and painting but it also gave me the tools necessary to view everything as a canvas. From understanding what creates pleasing aesthetics with a paintbrush to envisioning what makes architecture flow and blend with the environment and why less can be more in interior design all the way down to being able identify why a particular hair style may be more flattering for a particularly shaped face.

The concepts and reasoning of color theory and the dynamics of composition along with the ability to use each and every medium as a tool, has become a part of my life, its as second nature as breathing. After while along with seeing color, value and depth, your eyes add aesthetics to the process of vision. And suddenly you find yourself observing and critiquing constantly, asking, what is it that makes that work, or why is it that it doesn’t work. You wont always be right, for after all these rules are just guidelines of a popular consensus, at the end of the day what matters, is if you like it. I doubt the phrase “you can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time."  Was referring primarily to aesthetic choices but it certainly applies. And why would you want too? It’s these differences that give us variety and personal expression that ultimately lead to the beauty that surrounds us. So with that said, the works displayed here happen to be the way I choose to articulate my artistic vision, I hope it also appeals to you.

 AN EASY READING RESUME

After Graduating in 1995 from Arcadia high school in Southern California I spent the next few years enjoying the last chapter of my life that would be free of any real responsibilities. I then went to Citrus College, a junior college in southern California and spent the next 2 years discovering where my interests lie. I guess it was obvious; that the same thing I loved doing since I was a small child still evoked my strongest feelings of passion. As luck would have it one of the worlds best art schools was practically in my backyard, Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. It was here from 1999 to 2003 where it all came together. My love of portraiture and its pursuit never lost steam and with tutelage of some of today’s finest artists, Mike Hussar, Rob and Christian Clayton, Peter Liashkov, and Aaron Smith, I received an unparalleled education. My last semester of school breed way to my first solo show “Portraits & Stuffed Animals” in Wilden Hall at Azusa Pacific University. The first year after graduation was filled with commissions. I was part of several group shows, I had my first painting published in the book “ How Did They Paint That, 100 Ways To Paint People” I then won an award from the American Society of Portrait Painters for that same painting, it was of my good friend Rob John. It was also the beginning of doing work for celebrity cliental. Then came the introduction to Cartoon Network and the animation industry, My first job was for “The Clone Wars” as a background painter where it became clear to me that with each new venture my education would be indefinite, and this time I was getting paid to learn. Cartoon Network also hosted my second solo art exhibition,” Essence & Empathy.” Next I worked for Nickelodeon again as a background painter on the third and final season of “My Life As A Teenage Robot.”  Next came, “Space Chimps”(releasing summer 2008) a CGI feature film for Vanguard Animation. This was done on location in Vancouver Canada and my duties were that of a concept artist, and a matte painter.I am currently working for Nickelodeon on "Fanboy and Chum Chum" doing character look development, The show is Nickelodeons first original CG TV series. I also work for THQ video games doing art direction and concept work for Smackdown vs Raw, Legends of Wrestlemania, and UFC 2009 Undisputed. As if that wasnt enough, besides my own personal commissioned paintings I work as the portrait painter for Elson Alexandre, they are a portrait photography company that also offers commissioned paintings.  The challenge now is balancing the entertainment work with my commissioned and personal artwork, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
